The ill of the Iranian invasion in the first Persian war 490BC was not due to one aspect hardly many. Some of these aspects were involving Battle tactics, location, motivations, weaponry and the makeup of their armies.
One of the reasons to the Persians failure is because of the Greeks battle tactics. The two fly were strong, but the line in the centralise was only a few ranks deep. Herodotus, Book Six. This makeup was weak in the centre besides strong on the wings as to the Persians who were strong in the centre yet weak and measly on the wings (as shown in cite A). The Greeks ran at their enemies from the hills making the Persians arrow fire almost idle against the oncoming Greeks. As the two armies came together the Persian centre pushed through the Greek centre yet the Greeks wings overpowered the Persians wings therefore boxing in the Persians as seen in stemma B.



This was a very useful tactic in defeating the Persian forces.
Another reason for the Persians failure was their decision making. One of these decisions was to effect their cavalry onto their boats and sail around to Athens leaving the stay men to fight the Athenians without horses.
