Jonathan P.A. Sell Universidad de Aicaia, Spain This report card attempts to fork over a theoretical framework for the use of intercuiturai allusion in narratives of transcultural individuality. Identity is taken to be narrative in performance, i element of which, intercuiturai allusion, serves pragmatically to broker the transcultured subjects insertion into the host culture. The paper then shows how Othellos narratives of identity in Shakespeares tragedy are representational of both identity as performance and of the strategic deployment of intercuiturai allusion. The obligate concludes with a consideration of Caryl Phillipss reaction to the Othello icon of exotic ethnicity in his meditative novel The temper of Blood. This reaction forms part of Phillipss profess identity narrative and is illustrative of how a real persons identity is also reliant upon allusion - often in spite of itself. El presente trabajo trata de sugerir un marco teorico para el uso de la alusion intercuiturai en narrativas de identidad transcultural. Se considera que la identidad es la interpretacion de una narrativa, un componente de la cual - la alusion intercuiturai - tiene la funcion pragmatica de negociar la admision del sujeto transcultural en la cultura de acogida.
El trabajo procede a demostrar que las narrativas de identidad del Otelo shakespeariano mimetizan tanto la interpretacion de la identidad como el despliegue estrategico de la alusion intercuiturai. Por ultimo, el trabajo analiza como en su novela meditativa The Nature of Blood Caryl Phillips reacciona ante el icono oteliano de la etnicidad exotica. Resulta que su reaccion forma parte de la narrativa de identidad del autor mismo, de tal manera que indica hasta que punto la identidad de una persona real se vale de la alusion - a menudo muy a pesar suyo.
