One of his most realistic plays to understand is, Our day Out, Russell wrote this play from his experiences at Shorefeilds Comprehensive School. thither Russell worked as a teacher, Our day Out is about a teacher named Mrs Kay who takes her progress class on a check trip to Conway Castle, the progress class is for fryren who are not as in see to itigent as others . At the last minute Mr Briggs who is a strict responsible deputy head joins the group, creating a practical recipe for disaster. During the trip Mr Briggs relaxes him ego, only to revert to his usual self at the end of the day. In doing so he causes any the positive achievements to be shattered.



Russell uses humour in the play because of the mount used from the inner-city Liverpool but also in the play Russell is covering a very important, political point, which is that pupils who can not learn, as well as others, are just being child minded at school and the government, are just ignoring them, this makes this play important to all audiences. The play focuses on the contrast of the cardinal main characters, Mrs. Kay and Mr. Briggs.
